people actually thought this wasnt staged? thats crazy lol. little common sense would tell you that if carlson was so easily duped by a known strat that he wouldnt be #1 for years upon years now. the next question is always well why would they do that and the answer is the same for any champ in any sport who "loses" to a past great and that is good publicity. Honestly in this case its a 2 for 1 deal as well since its a woman. Many will think magnus would be mad that his record was "stained" but its not the case at all. its an exhibition match that means nothing to his official stats. He has everything to gain, besides another meaningless W, from losing this match to her. He comes out the other end as a "humbled" champ that respects his female peers in the game. the brownie points were worth the small investment of time for him to do this. Chess is not the most lucrative sport out there so maintaining a public presence is much more important to ones marketability, and this works for both involved. He winds and she wins.
